Welcome to Ifield School Specialist Nursery Department

The Specialist Intervention Nursery is based at King’s Farm Primary School and offers the opportunity for children from Gravesham to attend for a 12-week placement.  Children are referred to the nursery by Specialist Teachers, Portage Workers or the Children’s Care Co-ordination Team.  The children attending the nursery have a range of complex needs including, Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and children who are on the ASD pathway.

There is a high staff ratio allowing for a bespoke approach tailored to each child’s individual needs. There are many interventions on offer including sensory stories, Attention Autism and Intensive Interaction.  Children also benefit from using the hydrotherapy pool and from sessions with a specialist music teacher located at Ifield School.

Children continue to attend their mainstream setting and outreach and in-reach visits take place to support other nurseries to implement the interventions and approaches.

Some pupils will be referred for Statutory Assessment and the nursery staff will support parents through this process.  Please note that gaining a place at the Specialist Intervention Nursery does not mean that a child will be given a Special School place.
