Did you like it? What part was your favourite and why?

 

Explain that the letter turned up at reception in the post and has our class name on it. Who could the letter be from? Why have they sent us a letter?

Read the letter with the students. Miss Jones asking the students to create WANTED Posters to help us to make everybody in school aware and so that we can help Bob to catch the alien to send him back home safely. The letter will ask students to include the following sections:

What does the alien look like? Where does the alien usually live? How does the alien act?

 

Lesson Objective: Explore adjectives (describing words) and conjunctions (and, because) to extend sentences.

 

Have a large picture of the alien on the table. Can students think of appropriate adjectives to describe the alien other than colour? Extend by using a conjunction- ‘he has big eyes and sharp teeth’.

Lesson Objective: begin to understand the value of different coins

 

Explore coins in your piggy bank. What shape and colour are they? Are there any that are the same? Do they have numbers on them? Can you put them in order from 1,2,5,10,20,50,£1. Put them under a sheet of paper and rub a crayon over the top (coin rubbings).

 

Set up a shop using your toys - how much is that. Use 1p and 2p coins to buy things in the shop. Pupils begin to understand that 2x 1p coins=2p coin; 5x 1p = 5p coin. Can they count in twos?

Print out a large picture of the alien around school. Can students think of appropriate adjectives to describe how the alien acts and where he usually lives? Use conjunctions to extend their speaking. He is silly and cheeky.

Lots of the rubbish that floats around in space comes from space rockets etc some of this is metal rubbish

 

Using magnets (fridge magnets?) sort the rubbish that is magnetic. Could Bob use magnets to help make the job faster? Will they attract all rubbish? Are all metal objects attracted to magnets?

 

PE Enrichment

Go out for a walk and look at the changing colours of Autumn.

Starter

Share video of rockets eye view of earth from the NASA website. Explain that Earth looks very differently from space. Share photographs of what earth looks like from space.

 

Activities

Collage a picture of Earth using a range of tissue paper/different materials.

Match the value of the coins to Numicon pieces up to 50p. Extend by giving the students a number using the Numicon pieces, for example, 15. Which coins could we use to make 15p?
