SENSORY STORY – HOW’S THE WEATHER?

PREPARATION

Collect as many of the sensory items as you can to help make the story meaningful and interactive for your child. Be flexible and improvise as much as you like!

Watch the link on Youtube. Use the first part of the song as a Chorus between each section of the sensory story:

Is it sunny? Is it rainy? Is it cloudy? is it snowy?

Above a messy house, in a messy lane,

The clouds go dark and it begins to rain!                                      

Spray child with the water spray

As he looks outside, the skies fill with cloud,

The wind begins to howl, very, very loud! 

Use a fan or blow and make wind noises

“I can’t believe it, it’s a monsoon”.                                                 

It even blew away Morgan’s balloon.     

Blow a balloon up a bit then let it fly away

“I will get out today!” Morgan cries with all his might,

“I’ll stand on top of Windy Hill if I can find my kite.”                  

Wave parachute up and down

Parachute or sheet or teal towel

“Found it!” Morgan yelps, but wouldn’t you just know,

It took him so long that now it’s started to snow!            

Spray soapy foam or fake snow

Morgan wanted to go for a walk with his dog

But “Oh no, I can’t see with all that thick fog!”                          

Blow clouds of bubbles

“That fog is thick, oh deary me!

I must find my torch so I can see!”

“Found it!” he cried, but a flash made him wonder,

Followed by a roll of thunder! 

Stomp with feet and bang with hands

“That’s enough!” cried Morgan and shook his head,

“I’m not going out, I’ll stay in bed!”                                                

Pretend to lie down and go to sleep
